 Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program. It is open to students in grades 9-12. To enter students are to record an original 3-5 minute essay on a standard cassette tape or CD on the theme Does America Still Have Heroes? Along with this labeled tape or CD, submit a neatly typed copy of your essay along with the entry form. (Pick this up from Mrs. Calderone) You may not provide anything in your essay or recording that will identify you in any way. Deadline to submit is November 1, 2009. Judging criteria is on Originality, Content and Delivery. $149,000 is being awarded with the top award being $30,000.

Franciscan Scholars Program – need 3.5, ACT 22, essay, resume of activities and leadership.  Full tuition package for four years given. Our Lady of the Lake College/Baton Rouge.   See Mrs. Calderone for application.

 
The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program – University of Texas at Dallas.  16-20 given each year.  Based on academic, service and leadership achievements. Value up to $130,000 over 46-48 months.  Apply at www.utdallas.edu/mcdermott.  Due Nov. 1, 2009(priority) January 3, 2010 is regular deadline.

 
Marist College (New York) through a joint effort with the National Science Foundation is awarding 12 full scholarships (tuition, room and board) to highly talented students majoring in Computer Science or Information Technology Systems.  For eligibility criteria and application go to www.marist.edu/admission.  On the application, check box labeled “National Science Foundation Scholarship Program.  Apply by February 15, 2010.
