Procedure for completing the ninth grade schedule card (FRONT)

Please use a pencil when completing the card.

In high school students earn 1/2 credit for each successful completion of a semester course. 

A is the first semester of a course.

B is the second semester of a course.

S is a one semester course which may be taken either semester.

R is a recommendation course and must have teacher recommendation.

All incoming ninth graders MUST have successfully passed the mathematics and English Language Arts portion of the eighth grade LEAP 21.

1. Print all personal data in the blanks at the top of the card.

2. Under Group I, in the first section choose one from the required English courses.

·    If your student is enrolling in a regular college preparatory English course, check the first Line (1100, 1110).

·    If the student is eligible for honors and wishes to enroll in honors English, check the second line (1160, 1170). This course requires a recommendation. Please check to see if student qualifies for honors. If parent doesn't agree with school recommendation, and wishes to enroll their student in honors, they must understand the student will remain in the honors program at least one semester.

·    If student is presently enrolled in the gifted program and wishes to remain in the gifted English program, check the third line (7550, 7560).

·    If student is presently enrolled in a resource program, check the fourth line (1130, 1140).

3. In the second section, choose the required mathematics course.

·    If your student is enrolling in a regular college preparatory Algebra I class, check the first line (2770, 2780).

·    If the student is eligible for honors and wishes to enroll in honors Algebra I, check the second line (2800, 2810). Please check to see if student qualifies for honors. If parent doesn't agree with school recommendation, and wishes to enroll their student in honors, they must understand the student will remain in the honors program at least one semester.

·    If student is presently enrolled in the gifted program and wishes to remain in the gifted math program, check the third line (7698, 7699).

·    If student is presently enrolled in a resource program and wants to take Algebra I, check the third line (2811, 2812).

·    If the student is enrolled in Algebra I in the eighth grade, St. Tammany Parish pupil progression plan states "To be eligible to receive a Carnegie credit in Algebra I in eighth grade a student must receive a score of basic on the eighth grade LEAP 21 math test AND receive a B in the eighth grade math class AND take the state proficiency Algebra I test and score at least 50." If the student is presently enrolled in Algebra I in the eighth grade, please schedule Algebra I (H) and place an asterisk next to Algebra (H) or Algebra (G) (if gifted). When the results are final, you will be contacted regarding the option of scheduling Algebra or Geometry.

4. In the third section, choose the required Physical Science course:

·    If student is enrolling in regular Physical Science, check the first line (3350, 3360).

·    If student is eligible for honors and wishes to enroll in honors Physical Science, check the second line (3380, 3390). Students enrolled in honors Physical Science must be enrolled in Algebra I honors or gifted.  The student is required to remain in the honors program at least one semester.

·    If student is presently enrolled in a resource program, check the third line (3301, 3302).

·    The state now requires students to earn a credit in Physical Science as part of the high school graduation requirement.

5. In the fourth section, all students should select Education for Career andHealth.

6. In the fifth section, all students should schedule a year of Physical Education (6841, 6851) OR a year of ROTC (7120, 7130).

7. In the sixth section, all students should schedule Introduction to Business Computers Applications (4675, 4676), or World Geography (2370, 2380).  Whatever course is not scheduled this year will be scheduled next year.

8. Each student should have only one check in each section for a total of six.

9. In Group II, students select one elective based on student interest or vocational interest.

·    Students must take both semesters. A is first semester and B is second semester.

·    Elective chosen will determine Career Cluster and Area of Concentration for the first year of the Five Year Career Plan.

·    Career plans can be changed at any time.  All freshmen are taking the course Education for Career which goes into detail about the Five year Career Plan.

·    All career clusters will qualify the student for TOPS and college.

·    If parents have any specific questions at this time regarding a Career Cluster,

10. Each student should have only one credit elective checked in Group II.

11. Check the Career Cluster that matches the elective chosen.

12. Sign and date bottom of card. 

Procedure for completing the freshman schedule card (BACK).

1. Print all personal data in the blanks at the top of the card.

2. In section 2, circle No, since this is the first year of the five year plan.

3. In section 3, print the letter from list of post secondary option.

4. In section 4, print in career cluster code from front of card.

5. In section 5, print in career cluster name from front of card.

6. In section 6, print the area of concentration number from the front of the card.

7. In section 7, print the area of concentration name from the front of card.

8. In section 8, list the elective course from the front of the card in the first column under 9th Grade.

9. In section 9, print Education for Career in the space since this course is related to all career paths and all freshmen are scheduling this class.

10. Skip number 10.

11. Sign and date bottom of card.
